Council advocates gun law change
Boston Globe, Wednesday, August 1, 2007
The descriptions were stark: A mother afraid to live at home with her gun-toting sons, a "specific public safety crisis."
Thats what members of the Boston City Council heard yesterday. City Councilor Michael Flaherty proposed changing Boston law to implement mandatory minimum sentences for the possession of unregistered firearms in the home or at work. Currently, Boston imposes a minimum of two years for possession on the street.
City Councilor Felix Arroyo said that the council unanimously supported Flaherty's proposal and that the council would most likely support its submission to the Statehouse.
