Public Safety

As a former Assistant District Attorney, Michael prioritizes public safety. He supports a holistic approach to public safety, addressing crime and the underlying factors that contribute to it such as mental health and drug addiction.

Michael recognizes we can’t arrest our way out of the problems these factors create. He continues to call for more and better drug treatment options for those caught in the cycle of dependence and despair which fuels most of Boston’s street violence.

As Chair of the Government Operations Committee, Michael helped pass legislation sponsored by the Mayor banning replica firearms and tightening restrictions on possessing unlicensed firearms. As City Councilor, Michael has worked to fight gun violence and unlawful gun ownership in Boston, making public safety one of his top priorities.
