Michael F. Flaherty has been a member of the Boston City Council since January of 2000 and was elected by a super majority of his colleagues to serve as Council President from 2002-2006.

After graduating Boston College High School, Michael went to work for Airborne Express Company, a job that opened the doors to a membership with Teamsters Local Union #25. Michael continued working while he attended Boston College and Boston University School of Law. During the two years after earning his law degree, Michael served as an assistant district attorney for the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, trying cases in East Boston, Charlestown and Roxbury district courts. Michael is currently a partner at the Boston law firm Adler Pollock & Sheehan.

Michael's priorities as a City Councilor have been guided by his own goals for inclusion, accessibility and equal opportunity. He remains committed to making Boston a city that offers superior public schools, affordable housing and safe streets and neighborhoods for all residents.

A South Boston native, Michael feels fortunate to be raising his sons Patrick and Michael, and twins Elizabeth and Jack, with his wife Laurene (Farrell) in the same Boston neighborhood.
